About Lisa & Lisa Nelson Designs

To say that Lisa 'stumbled' into this line of work is not exactly how it happened.

Growing up with a father as a high school art teacher, Lisa had many mediums available to try her restless hands at. She went through the 70's and did the macramé and paper mache thing. When those proved to be too gluey and gloppy, she moved on to needle work.

It made much more sense as you could travel with it and it seemed to be much more appreciated than the Holly Hobbie dolls that had the 7 Up bottle core for a body and the Styrofoam heads with the dimpled nose and cheeks.

Soon the scrap booking craze took hold of the nation and everyone was meeting to crop and paste their beloved families. One of the scrap book stores that Lisa frequented, turned half of it's shelves into a bead store... and the rest is history.

Lisa had taken beading classes and loved making simple jewelry with what she had learned. Her scrap booking girlfriends started to show her their mothers bracelets and name bracelets' and telling her how much they loved them, but also how much they had to pay for them. Being that she knew a little about the kinds of beads used and the amount of work that went into constructing a personalized bracelet, she offered to make their next bracelets for less.

Her girlfriends took her up on her offer and she had many orders for themselves and for Mother's Day gifts. She also had the good fortune to be able to show her bracelets to the teachers at her son's elementary school. They too gave her bracelets and matching earrings a warm reception. So with the encouragement of family, friends and acquaintances, this small company was born.

With a goal to attend nicer art shows, rather than just craft shows, Lisa focused her attention here in 2008 to learn soldering skills and more about working with metals. She has taken classes from a variety of teachers and certified bench jewelers. She continues to strive to increase her knowledge in the many areas where metals are involved.

The parent company of Lisa Nelson Designs (A Treasured Bead) went online in the Fall of 2003. Before she created her first item, she vowed to only use the best quality findings and materials, and make each item with an infusion of passion and creativity. Customers agree... Lisa Nelson Designs is simply the best quality at the best prices.
